Question:

What do the circled notes in guitar tablature mean?

Like the notes from the solo of steve vai get the h**l out of here, during the extremely fast tapping (im oretty sure its tapping) section of the solo, some of the notes are circled, and some has a box around it or are squared. can anyone tell me waht they mean?

(please dont come here telling me about crotchets and minims cos i know about those stuff.... thanks!)

    That circle represents an open string which makes the tapping sound faster than it actually it.

    I use that technique as well as Richard Johnsdon. It gives a different effect to your playing , plus, an extra open strong note.

    You play the open string and hammer the note where you plan to begin soloing or tapping. You can do that technique anytime and in any position.
