Ok I am just wondering what the countries of olympic medalist get? Is there some kind of monetary reward? I am just confused as to why for instance the Chinese take children away from their families at the age of 3 to start training for the olympics....there has to be something in it for them. Please don't misunderstand me, winning a medal is a huge deal, but I think there is more to it. Does anyone know?

  1. It depends on the country. For example, Australia gold medalists are awarded a $20,000 bonus from the Government. I'm sure the Americans would have a monetary award too. Not sure of the exact figure, but Google will know; it knows everything :)

  2. Glory.

  3. The Chinese want pride for their country, and if you bring your country and your family pride and honor, it's a big deal.

The athletes also get monetary payment from their country for the medals they win.

  4. It is not so much a physical prize, it is more about the bragging rights and being able to say "we are the most successful superpower"..its all about politics.
