What do the exlamation marks mean on Wii Sports Baseball?

On Wii Sports Baseball sometimes there are exclamation points above the pitchers head. What does this mean?

When the pitcher is surprised by the outcome of his pitch. Think of this as the best time to smack one outta there, or to whack a double up the gap.

But all it is is the Mii pitcher thinking his pitch isn't what he wanted it to be, example it might be a fastball right down the middle.

i think it just means that he didn't expect to throw it or he threw it harder than he thought. well - as far as Mii thinking goes anyway!
