  1. Lots of different types of houses.

They range from cardboard/plastic and tin huts to huge mansions.

Most are built from concrete block with a skim coat of cement for a stucco look. Adobe  is still being used just not as much.

Roofs are generally  made from metal, concrete or tile.Trusses are usually made of re-bar and angle iron.

In the subdivisions most houses are zero clearance, meaning adjacent houses share common walls between them.

Most have decorative  bars on the windows and doors.

Alot of the houses have sort of a Spanish colonial look to them.

Not many wood frame houses ,but I have seen a few along the route of flowers, usually is usually more wealthy people.

Since the earthquake in 2001 lots of houses are being built.

  2. Depends highly on the persons income (if any). The majority of Salvadorans can't afford a luxury home. Many poor Salvadorans live in tin houses with tin roofs or houses made up of whatever they can fins around. Like this one: http://flickr.com/photos/smithfischer/19... Those are far too common in rural El Salvador.

The better off Salvadorans, which aren't too many because the poor outnumber them, live in regular homes. Regular meaning they are made of cement and have tin roofs, but some also have regular roofs, mostly in San Salvador.

Then there are the filthy rich, which are very very very few. They are the ones that own fincas and large houses with all luxuries included. http://flickr.com/photos/adobemac/809572...
