What do the letter on the side of the hills in montana mean?

i was in montana and i saw these letters on the side of a coulpe different hills near each other. i was wondering what they meant or stand 4?

  1. Being from Montana, it's likely it was the first letter of the nearest town. Where were you when you saw them? If you were in Missoula the M on the side of the mountain stands for University of Montana. On the other side of the interstate on the adjacent mountain, the letter L stands for the town of Lolo. (low low)
