the levels are there to give you an incentive to move up the leaderboard. to some they are not big deal but to others they are their motivation.

The levels feed your YA addiction. It is so frustrating at the lower levels to be told you can't answer any more questions.

Some people think they don't matter. Some people see them as a sign of intelligence or knowledge and think of them as a status symbol. But, the levels only allow you to ask and answer more questions and vote on more answers.
