  1. doesnt it mean that the companies profit went down 1.287 percent or it could mean that the companies profits went up 1.287? IDK maybe I'm right, Maybe I'm wrong!

  2. it tells you how much a company is worth. You multiply the price by the number of shares issued to get the value of a company. The arrows say whether that price has gone up or down today.

The Dow Jones and FTSE (in UK) are numbers calculated by adding the top 100 shares together, so if it goes up it meens that on average, the top 100 companies have gone up in value. Obviously though, some may have gone up but others may have gone down. Other indicators like the nasdaq look at specific sectors of the market such as technology companies.

Profit and loss has to be announced by the company, so you can read news articles to find out.
