  1. On Mercedes and BMW cars, the numbers generally indicate the size of the engine displacement. For example, a BMW 325i, would be a 3-series BMW with a 2.5 liter engine and fuel injection. BMW especially has been deviating from this a bit in recent years, so it isn't always completely accurate, but still a good indication of the engine size.

    So, the Mercedes G-55 and G-550 both have 5.5 liter engines. The G-55 is the version made by the Mercedes tuner company AMG. Whenever you see a Mercedes with a two-digit number, chances are pretty good it is a performance-tuned model by AMG.

  2. The higher the numbers, the bigger engine & horsepower.

  3. They usually describe the approximate size of the engine, in liters.

    In Mercedes, a G55 has a 5.5 liter engine. An M350 has a 3.5 liter engine. If it's a two-digit number, like 55, then it's usually a tuned engine.

    In BMWs, the first number corresponds to the series, where 3, 5 and 7 are usually sedans, but can also exist as coupes, and a 6 is always a coupe. The last two digits of the number again shows the size of the engine. 28 means a 2.8 liter engine, the 25 means a 2.5 liter engine. The i stands for "injection" and implies a standard Otto motor gasoline engine, not a diesel.

  4. 328 3 series car 2.8 engine

    325 3 series car 2.5 engine........

  5. Those are just subseries numbers.....the higher the more luxurious and expensive the vehicle..

    They are just model number.....and really mean nothing...unless you mean the letters....which can designate a turbo or awd....

    In some cars....the subseries number designates the size of the engine....like the bmw...

  6. its the litre of the engines. on the g-55 and g-550 the g-55 is the AMG so it is 5.5 litre engine. the g-550 has a 5.0 litre engine. basically the same for the BMW cars too.

  7. For BMW.

    3 in 328 is for BMW 3 series. The 3 series is BMW's compact sporty luxury sedan.

    The 5 series is the midsized luxury sedan.

    The 7 series is the high luxury large sedan.

    The 28 in 328 means it has a 2.8 liter engine.

    335i=3.5L engine

    330xi=3.0L engine and AWD.

    Same with Mercedes and Lexus.

    Mercedes C240

    C is for C class, which is their compact luxury sedan like the BMW 3 series. 240 is for 2.4L engine.

    G55 is 5.5 Liter engine. AMG

    The sport version of Mercedes cars are called AMG and they usually use 2 numbers instead of 3 numbers.

    G550 is 5.5L engine normal Mercedes.

    The AMG version is probably supercharged.

    Lexus IS250.

    Lexus IS series is like the 3 series and C class.

    250 is 2.5L engine.
