  1. They just show you how the territory looks and its relative location(it's just a picture)

  2. it has been a long time since i played risk.  as i recall the pictures of the territories are just that, pictures.  pictures of the territories for the game.  but they are based on the regions of the world, partially from days gone by such as when ghenghis khan ruled to a possible future financial region such as europe has become with the euro monetary unit.

  3. There are two different reasons.

The first is used for a quick game (or if you are playing 2 player)

For a quick game, remove all wild cards and mission cards from the deck. Then pass out the remaining cards to each player. Those territories each player recieves is where they place their armies. Once set-up is complete, return the cards to the dealer.

The other reason is for in-game play. When you turn in your cards for bonus armies, you get one additional army if you occupy a territory pictured on one of your cards (this army is to be placed in that territory).

  4. the pictures of the territories have two usage:

    a) if only playing 2 player u use them to determine which territories you start off with.

    b) you know how you can gain extra army when you get either a triple of calvary, infantry or a tank thing or one of each... when you calim your extra army, you can gain 2 extra infantry pieces for each picture of a territory you own.

example... you are the first to claim your extra pieces, when you claim, you have 3 cards... a calvary witha picture of Peru, an infantary with a picture of Northern Europe and a tank-thing with a picture of China. you own Peru and China but not Northern Europe, so along with the 4 extra armies you get 2 extra infantry to PLACE on PERU and CHINA (NO WHERE ELSE!)

hope that answers your question. :)
