What do the russian surnames petrovich and dragunov mean?

  1. They're both what we call "patrynoms", which means they were known as "the son of ___". In this case, they were the sons of Peter (Petrov or Petros) and Dragun or Dragos.


  2. Petrovich simply means "son of Peter", while Dragunov probably has something to do with military dragoons (a type of cavalry).

  3. dragunov refers to a semi-automatic sniper rifle.  try go on wikipedia and type dragunov.
