Wanting to find out more info. I have been on cruises before, but never paid much attention to the categories for rooms. I wasnt sure how to make sure we get one big bed rather than two singles. Thanks

  1. The categories designate the supposed level of desirability of the cabin locations, as well as the four different types of cabin [inside, outside, balcony, suite].  You may have a different opinion of how desirable a particular cabin within a category is.

  2. Here are the basics.  Most of the cabins have a number and letter designation.  The number gives you the category and the letter gives you the level.

A cat 1 cabin has bunk beds

A cat 4 cabin is an inside cabin

A cat 6 cabin is an ocean view cabin

A cat 8 cabin is a balcony cabin

Cat 11 and 12 are suites

A 4A cabin is an inside cabin on the lowest deck with inside cabins.  A 4B cabin is an inside cabin on the next higher deck with inside cabins.  A 4C cabin is an inside cabin on the next higher deck with inside cabins.

A 6A cabin is an ocean view cabin on the lowest deck with ocean view cabins.  A 6B cabin is an ocean view cabin on the next higher deck with inside cabins.

Cat 11 and 12 cabins do not have letters.

On the Spirit class ships (Spirit, Pride, Miracle and Legend) some balconies are larger than others, so an 8B and 8C would be on the same deck, just that the 8C balconies are larger.  On the other ships the 8C cabins would be above the 8B cabins.

So, the lowest deck with cabins might have cat 4A and 6A cabins.  However, as you move up, the letters might not be all the same.  It is possible for a 4E, 6C and 8D cabins to all be on the same deck.  This just means it is the fifth highest deck with inside cabins, the third highest deck with ocean view cabins and the fourth highest deck with balcony cabins.  Not all decks have all categories of cabins.

There are other categories, such as 5 for ocean view cabins with port holes (cat 6 cabins have picture windows).  Cat 7 cabins have French doors on some ships.  Cat 9A cabins on the Spirit class ships are larger cabins (but not suites) while on the other ships a 9A cabin is a normal sized balcony cabin with a large wrap-around balcony (these are rear corner cabins).

With very few exceptions, all cabins with two twin beds can have the beds rearranged to make one queen sized bed.

Again, these are the basics.  There are a few exceptions to the above and a few more additions, but this does provide you with a basic understanding of how Carnival labels its cabins.

  3. Basically you can ask your PVP or trael agent, but.

Interior has no windows, usually has 2 twin beds that can convert into a king, or it has an upper and lowwer bunk only, some interior rooms will sleep 4, with 2 upper bunks and the twin/king configuration

Ocean View....well it has a window, or 2 portholes depending where on the ship the room, is located. you has the same sleeping configurations as interior but some of the newere ships has a couch that converts to a bed, with or without an upper

Balcony...same but with a balcony, stay away from obstructed views if you have any hope of seeing outside, sticl to a plain window unless its a free upgrade or you dont really care if you see out.

Suits i have no clue becaue I havent booked one.........yet?

  4. Usually you can click on it and it'll give you a picture of the stateroom. At least it does on carnival.com

  5. All cabins have two single beds can be made into one large one. If it has not been done by the time you get onboard, just ask the room steward to do it for you.

  6. On Carnival, the higher the number the higher the cabin.

1A being the lowest inside and 12 being a Suite.

    (on most ships)

  7. Most, but not all, can be configured as two singles or one double. Exceptions are generally noted on the deck plans.  You can request the "together" configuration when you book the room.

Watch out for category 1A on the Fantasy Class ships. They are bunks...
