What do the wing options for f1 games do?

in f1 games when going to the pit you can choose what tires to put, how much fuel to put, to fix damage, but there is a wing part that i dont get. What will increasing or decreasing do to the handling or speed?

  1. increase wing setting for a really twisty track w/ alot of turns, like monaco and hungary. on tracks with alot of high speed and straight ways u wanna decrease the wing setting. if the track is a combination of both, such as turkey, bahrain and china, go with a medium setting.

  2. ya...we have such an option in real world f-1 too...like drivers before comming into the pits tell their race engineer on the radio that how is the handling of the car is going and what he feels must be done but it differs from person to person and their driving style(lets not go deep into it and let me give u the answer)....the wing part ur talking about is like this-

when into the pits the team pit crew with the help of a s***w driver kinda thing decreases or increases the height of the front wing from the ground(the change in height is almost negligible but it makes a huge difference).....Increasing the height(from the ground level) will decrease the down force hence increasing the straight line speed of the car but decreasing the cornering speed...decreasing the height of the wing(towards the ground) will increase the down force or increasing the cornering speed of the car but decrease the straightline speed....if u feel that you are more than fast in the straightline from your rivals but are losing time due to less grip in the slow corner sections than you may go in for decreasing the wing height...but if u have well balanced car which is quick on the corners and also on the straight line and still you go in for wing adjustment(esp for incresing the cornering speed by decresing the ing height)than u may(may) end up with an oversteering car(you can experiment with them...lolz ur not in the real world)....good luck...

  3. More wing equals more grip and more drag.

So faster around corners and slower down the straights.

Wing settings play a smaller part at low speeds and a major part at high speeds.

In other words you'll be gaining the most from lots of wing in fast corners and losing the most on long straights.

More wing will also give harder braking.

Because of how wings affect the grip of the car they also affect the balance.

Too much front wing will make the car pointy and cause oversteer, too little will create understeer.

Lots of understeer in quick corners is a question of aerodynamics, wing settings.

Lots of understeer in slow corners is a question of mechanical grip, suspension, ride height settings and the like.

Same for oversteer of course, just an example.

Depending on how detailed the physics of the game are, some or all of these features may be integrated in the game engine and more.

  4. d**n not sure srry =[

  5. increasing wing makes the car tighter, or have understeer. decreasing wing makes the car looser or have oversteer
