What do they ask you in 'vasectomy counselling'??

What kind of questions do they ask you?? Counselling seems a bit of a strange thing...usually when you need psychology help to come to terms with something??

The main idea is to make sure that you're absolutely certain that the vasectomy is what you want becuase once they do the cut, it's very, very difficult to reconnect the tubing, especially if the doctor snips away some of it and then seals both ends.  They also want to check to make sure that you have ruled out the possibility of having any children after the operation.  Some guys have it done thinking that it might be reversible down the road, but the success rate at that is not very high.

They just want to make sure that it is something that you really want to have done and that your not doing it for the wrong reasons.  

And to let you know exactly what will happen - guys are a little sesitive about that area.

Pre-vasectomy counseling is an extension of the informed consent process. Vasectomy has known short-term and long-term side effects. Also, men who felt pushed towards vasectomy do worse after the procedure, especially if they have significant side effects.

You don't want any surprises.

Acute post-vasectomy problems with bleeding or infection can occur. Chronic pain that can affect sexual enjoyment or function can also occur. This information is not always listed on the consent forms for vasectomy and may not be covered by the physician.

Any practitioner can use any consent form he or she wishes to augment the usual pre-operative counseling that should precede all vasectomies.

usually not much.  they normally just inform you what it involves, and ask you to make sure you dont want any more kids.  it just tries to stress that you need to be sure and treat it like it is permenant because reversal is expensive and doesnt always work.
