What do they do in the NFL if 2 teams finish tied for a playoff spot?

like if two or more teams finish tied first in a division or wildcard?

  1. The last tiebraker in case of identical wins, loses,scores and competition,is a coin flip

  3. From what I understand, there are other factors involved.  If they end up in a tie, then the # of wins in their division will be a factor.  Its more than just W's and L's.

  4. They look at the record between the two teams, and then they go to each teams divisional record.

  5. They look at the records, they look at the divisional records, they look at the records totaled of the teams they played

  6. They have so many tiebreaker provisions that I do not think it is possible to have a tie.  It could come down to point spread.  But, the list of tiebreakers is mind numbing.  It is maybe not as fair as it could be due to relative strength of schedules; but, it does bring certainty to the playoff issue.
