What do they do with the dogs that the vet puts to sleep?

If people in the world are truly suffering from malnurishment and the dogs were not diseased, do you think they should donate the meat to the poor (either in America or abroad)?

It's not cruelty to animals, because they were ALREADY put to sleep, and people who are truly starving would not care if it was a dog or a duck. They just need food.

What do you think?

  1. i think dat itz true and all!! but dey really kant because of da euthanizing process!! da chemicals are all ready in the dog so the meat is really no good!! even if the meat was clean or washed it is already contaminated!!

  2. No, first of all, the family often buries the dog.

The way they put animals down is by injecting a lethal substance into their bloodstream. It's not good for eating. Furthermore, most dogs that are put down are sick.

    It's not a good idea.

  3. A lot of the dogs that are put to sleep are diseased.  What usually happens to them is :  They are either buried in a large "community" type grave with other dogs (a fee is paid to the vet for this), or they are buried in a singular grave paid for by the pet owner, or they are cremated and their ashes given back to the pet owner (also for a fee).

Yes there is a lot of starvation going on in the world, but when volunteer groups and charities take it upon themselves to feed the hungry they have to be sure they are giving them a quality food vs something that could make them sicker.  The animals would have to be pretested for disease and the presence of bacterial infections.

That you are thinking this way says you are not acceptable of things as they are - that is really good.  We need more "out of box" type thinking to help get world starvation and other serious humanitarian problems under control and eliminated.  Keep thinking about solutions!

  4. thts disgusting.

  5. Wow I sure do hope all of you that think its a good idea are not from the U.S.A.,That is so neandrathal. If you are worried about world hunger, donate to charities, even better yet go with a church group or whatever group and travel to these starving people and help them yourself. Why would anyone even think to give tainted food to any human and say they care? And to the smarty that thinks its okay to feed your beloved pets there own kind(making them canibals)you really dont know much about the consequences of canabilism.Mad Cow disease ring a bell? They found that the cows that were infected were also cows that had were forced to eat other cows by putting it in the feed.I hate PETA but if they were the ones to stop canabilism in our pets then okay, thats one thing they were good for but thats it.Hey I have a good idea, next time you feel like pigging out at Mickey D's or KFC or any restaurant for that matter, stop right there, add up the cost of what you would have spent, send the money to a local charity and go home and eat a salad. Then to get more points  volunteer at a local shelter and help the poor in your own neighborhood, end the starvation in your own State first.Geesh sorry to offend but the question offended me as a human.

  6. There is a new plant that is opening up here in Scotland, that will be taking animal waste from the main slaughterhouses to produce electricity.

This used to be buried - which would lead to methane being produced, so is instead incinerated at a higher temperature - the waste heat used to heat steam for a turbine.

While some may think using animals for fuel is disgusting, I would agree if this was their sole purpose; But this plant is creating energy from wasted resources.

I think that a lot of manufacturing and farming produces waste products that could be better utilised - and this is what we should be doing - not using good corn for a little fuel.

  7. Before PETA got involved, shelters used to turn much of the dead animals into pet food.   Sell the carcasses to pet food facilities where the meat would be boiled off and canned, along with other ingredients.   Might sound gross, but it brought in money to keep the shelters open.    Reread your question.... the owners would probably take them home for burial.

  8. i think that that would make sense unless what they give to the dogs is i ntheir bloodstream but dogs have very little meat on them its just mostly fat so idk how nutritous it would be

  9. In some parts of the world the dog is used as food for humans. We have become so removed from our own food system that we don't like meat to even look like it came from an animal.

I don't think that a animal that has been put to sleep can be eaten, it would have a toxin in it's blood stream. I think instead we should make spay and neutering mandatory so we can reduce the pet population to a more managable number so we don't have to kill so many animals or spend millions of dollars housing animals that people discard.

I do know when I was in high school we got several dead cats that were from shelters that we disected.

  10. thats true they really should do that because the dog is dead already n there children who need food so i agree with you!

  11. Not for human consumption or animal.  The chemical Sodium Pentobarbital is what is typically used to put down an animal and it is still present after the animal is dead.  Most commercial dog/cat food have dead strays and this chemical and it is not broken down by the manufacturing process and is still present in active form.  And that's bad enough..

  12. Personally I think it is gross.  But you do make a good point.  There are some cultures that eat dog.  I believe it is a common food in Vietnam for example. (don't quote me though).  However, most dogs that are put to sleep have something wrong with them or they would die naturally - therefore their meat would probably be contaminated - I know you said if they weren't diseased, but if they weren't diseased or seriously  injured they wouldn't need to be put to sleep.  Another problem with this is the cost to then transport the carcus to those who would want it.  There would be high costs because it would have to be done in a way approved by the FDA.

It's a good thought, but I just don't think it would work, especially in America where people wouldn't be able to get past the fact that it is dog.

  13. You are truly WEIRD!  Dogs have to be cremated in accordance with state regulations.
