What do they mean by a cover to get into a club?

  1. It literally means an amount the venue charges to "cover" their costs. In some cases the venue genuinely does need to charge this because people often go in and don't buy enough drinks in order for the owners to make a profit, or in other cases they charge it just because they can and it makes them more money.
