  1. Death certificates are issued to the executor of the estate. Originals must be presented to certain organizations such as probate court and life insurance companies. Copies, which cost much less, can be used for most other needs such as creditors and investment firms. You will have to ask each organization which they require to settle the estate.

Death certificates are not issued to the family. The family would have to get copies from the executor.

  2. If you are having copies or replicates , make sure that they are certified copies. To get your copies certified go to any of the commissioner of oaths .

Present the original  together with copies. ( The Original must be present )

As copies need to have the commissioner stamping .

***The original is for your safe keeping and must NOT and NEVER be given to anyone. It is for the family only.

You only gives out the certified copies to banking/finance/insurance / lawyer institutions.
