What do they mean on t.v. by digital television?

they keep on saying that after 09 theyll be digital t.v. what does that mean

They are referring to the type of signal that is sent out from TV networks, channels, etc. to the satellites which then get picked up by contract television providers, like Comcast, Verizon, AT&T etc.

If you currently subscribe to a cable or satellite television provider, you do not need to worry about the changeover, you already receive a signal that is compatible with your equipment.

The only television viewers that need to get a digital to analog converter would be those who still receive local broadcasts received through a rooftop-type antenna, as most homes did pre-1980ish.
