What do they mena when they say 15U of insulin? (is there a conversion to mg's or mL's?)?

  1. contact your pharmacist or endocrinologist =insulin is supplied in UNITS.


  2. a unit is based on biological effect, I believe, so different preparations will have different conversion factors.

  3. You would have to know the concentration of the insulin. It comes as U-40 and U-100; the former has 40 units of insulin per ml and the latter has 100 units per ml and is used when higher doses are required in order to minimize the amount that has to be injected in the case of a subcutaneous injection.
