  1. For an emergency bag for earthquakes it's best to keep:

    1.  Water - you will need water to survive

    2.  Food - store nonperishable food such as granola bars or beef jerky

    3.  First Aid - store a first aid kit in the bag for any injuries that you or someone else may have

    4.  Light - store a long lasting flash light or candles and some water proof matches in the bag

    5.  Medication - store some needed medication that anyone in your family needs such as heart medicine, asthma inhalers, insulin shots....etc

    6.  Money - keep some form of money in the bag such as a couple of personal check or money order just enough to hold you or your family over for a couple of days.

    7.  Gloves - if there's an earthquake and you or someone is stuck in a fallen building you'll need to wear gloves to help remove debris

    8.  Shovel - maybe place on of those folding shovels in the bag to help remove large debris

    9.  Personal hygiene items - store some personal hygiene items in the bag just in case no one can get to you in a couple of days.  Toothbrush, baby wipes, female pads, trash bag or plastic bags.

Above I would consider as a minimum for Earthquake emergencies.  However there are websites that would also include hard hats, salt water tablets, MREs, utility knife, neon vest, safety goggles, disposable utensils, can opener, extra clothes, sleeping bag, towel, vitamins....etc.
