Question:

What do they teach about Iraq?

In school the teacher assigned us students to name 10 things we know about Iraq. What really angered me was that all the students put down was suicide bombings, terroism,Osama Bin Laden.

How can people be so ignorant about things. Don't they know that the first civilization was in Mesopotamia, which is modern day Iraq.

These are 10th graders Im talking about.

What are your opinions on this.

  1. Obviously, people don't get taught anything about Iraq, not here in Canada, and in America probably just bad stuff.

  2. First of all, there's no connection between Osama Bin Laden and Iraq so it annoys me that people are still continuing to think that.  I don't think that kids are educated about Iraq beyond what is known on television.  When I was in college, I took a lot of history classes and learned a lot about Iraq.  I even took a class on the history of terrorism where I learned a lot.  I think the education system is afraid of being unpatriotic so they are very careful about what they do teach the students.  It's not so much that they lie, but they seem to ommit things.  I think you're really intelligent for questioning something like this.  Also, most teenagers get all of their info from what they hear on the background when their parents have the news on, so it isn't a surprise.  It's great that you are questioning things, and the world needs more kids like you to grow up and do great things.

  3. Welcome to America. Those are some future ditto heads in your class.

  4. How do you expect that any youth will be able to have view of Iraq any different than this? They are being inundated with garbage from the media which only reports these things not anything about the culture, or the people, just bombs and terrorists...

I'm glad that you can see through the BS and form your own opinion
