  1. Depends on how large the agency you are applying for is and whether it is a State or City agency as well as how badly they need people.  I think DC has reduced their physical to checking for a pulse...no undead need apply....(theres an Americans with Disabilities Act lawsuit in there somewhere...the Heartbeat Challenged?).... the more military the organization, the more thorough the exam and the more difficult it is to get a pass on negative qualifiers.  Medical exam is no different than an annual physical you might have with your regular physician with the addition of the drug tests to your blood and urine samples.  A positive isn't always a negative result, but whatever your blood/urine show better match with what you have put in your background book.  Anything outside of height/weight norms and you will probably be sent to a specialist for further clearance.

  2. Primarily, if a man, they are looking for a hernia.  They will also be looking for any severe nerve damage or reflex issues, and will also ask a series of questions about your medical history.  If you mention any problems regarding sleep disorders, heart problems, back problems, unusual surgeries, etc., you are risking a negative evaluation.  Unless you absolutely cannot do so, I would claim to have had no medical problems of any kind ever.

  3. The ability to process oxygen.  And, they don't mind if they have to remind you occassionally.

  4. You will get a complete and comprehensive physical.  It will include blood tests, a stress test (cardio) and most any other you can think of.

  5. They basically check to make sure your healthy, and they will check for any type of drug use......i believe they do a basic urine sample.....If your going to the academy for a state police officer the may do a hair strand test....and they do a polygram test....enjoy
