  1. As a parent you have the right to DENY any tests that you don't want done.

    Just saying...

  2. They do the apgar test right after birth .... then the next day they do a bilirubin test to check for jaundice .... that's all my 3 babies were tested for :-)

  3. touching on the drug testing aspect, not all hospitals will inform you of this procedure *drug testing the newborn* some states give hospitals the right to drug test the newborn without parental consent, the catch is they can't use that as a definitive reason to take the kid away and they have to prove otherwise that the child was harmed or neglected as a result of the drug use. if they warn you first, that is not necessarily true.

and i'm pretty sure that is something you can't refuse, a drug test i mean. for one because of the lack of consent needed and two because once you refuse a drug test on your baby that would likely turn into probable cause for looking into the issue further.

other than that there are standard tests, blood and other, to make sure the baby is safe, healthy and doesn't have any birth defects or issues that might need follow-up care.

some hospitals do randomly drug test, and some hospitals drug test all newborns, i'm not sure whether they inform you or how they inform you before the test is performed.

  4. Test your baby for what??

  5. This site looks informative

    http://kidshealth.org/parent/system/medi...

  6. apgar test is one of the tests. a day later or so they test your baby for hearing. that's all i can tell you right now.

  7. Are you wondering if they test the babies for drugs?  The hospital I went to did a pre-interview and if you admitted to using drugs even one time in your life, they said that they would test your baby's urine for drugs.  They put a bag in your babies diaper and it collects the urine.  But other hospitals may be different.

  8. They give Vitamin K, give eye drops (can't think of the name) and usually they give a hepatitis B vaccine, which I am requesting to not have happen with my baby right away.  Thats all I heard of them doing if the baby seems healthy.
