Question:

What do they use for dry socket?

I had my wisdom teeth removed over a week ago, and I've developed a dry socket. A dentist (not the one who preformed the surgery, and not a very good dentist) packed something into the wound that looked like chewing tobacco or soggy, shredded beef jerky.

I was wondering what the substance is and what kind of side-effects it has? Also, how does it help the healing process?

  1. dry socket paste.

he active ingredient is eugenol.  OR oil of cloves usually on resorbable packing material.

it will soothe the exposed area.

  2. Dentist will usually soak packing in something called Oil of Clove or Eugenol.  It has a soothing pain killing effect on the extraction site.  It dosent really help the healing process, just helps eliminate some pain so its not so uncomfortable.
