  1. I think they just contact the last place you rented, made sure you paid on time..etc. I don't recall seeing my rental history on any of my credit reports.

  2. They use the credit report and call anyone you place on your rental application for previous landlords. They call your employer to check on your employment also. They may even call personal references.

  3. Contrary to popular belief, your rental history is never reported on a credit report. Rent is not credit, therefore not on credit report. However your address changes are reflected.

Landlords usually call up previous landlords and management offices and check your credit report for any rental deficiency judgement.

  4. Credit reports only have your rental history if you failed to pay and they took you to court. No management companies I have worked for ever reported to the credit bureaus except for that. Normally they call previous landlords to get rental history.

  5. I beleive your credit reports will contain your rental history.

  6. Usually a credit report from Equifax, TransUnion, or Experian.

  7. Often it's a credit report. Here's a link to one online service that offers a variety. You'll get a better idea from that: http://www.mrlandlord.com/html/creditfaq...

In addition, very often (should be always) the owner or landlord will call your previous landlords. That's because many individual landlords don't report information to credit bureaus...so you might have been late with a couple of payments. Maybe you even broke your lease. But if you were renting from an individual, that might not make it into a credit report.

  8. Your previous addresses are on your credit history, I check that against the application and then I call the landlords up and talk tot hem to verify.    I want to know a lot more then if you paid rent on time.

  9. Might depend on where you live.

In Quebec there's an office that keeps track of tenants for landlords called Locateur Avertis.  Landlords have to pay a small fee for the service but they can find out if a potential tenant has had complaints from previous landlords.  If they paid their rent on time, damaged the property, skipped out of a lease in the middle of the night or if they were every landlords dream come true..it will all be in their file.

I get a copies of my credit report every year and they've never said anything about my rental history.

  10. They do a verfication of rental history through your old property managers and private landlords.  There is a VOR form for professional managed properties and sometimes you might have to show cancelled checks for a private landlord.
