When people are taking pictures for studs and horses for sale, I notice they have put something on the horses that cause a high gloss and it shows up well in the pictures. It is most noticable on the head shots.

What is it?

  1. there are plenty of products that add shine, when i want a gd pic of my horse i just spray mane and tail conditioner on her and don't touch or brush her for 5 mins so it soaks in. u could look on the internet for products. hope this helps.

  2. Show sheen

  3. First of all they have to have a healthy coat, be groomed within and inch of their life and lots of hair polish like Show Sheen or something.

  4. Most people use show sheen.  Some horses are all natural.  Although they feed the horse about a tablespoon of vegetable oil with their horse's grain.

  5. baby oil, lots of grooming and bathing, show sheen and other spray products, a healthy diet and fit horse, supplements, ect.

    theres tons of things.

  6. Baby oil, laser sheen, show sheen, human makeup (bad) and several more trick that aren't even done on the computer!

  7. A Program called "Paint Shop Pro"  You can do anything with pictures.

  8. Show Sheen!!! I love it!

  9. That shine, initially, comes from the inside.  A great worming program, a supplement given to enhance their coats, either a flax seed oil or Omegas, .....many coat supplements out there but the pros stick with those that work, particularly if they're showing these horses at halter.

Shampoos:   Many use Tree Tea shampoos and conditioners, or Cowboy Magic, Rio Vista, Mane and Tail ...shampoo and conditioners.  After shampooing many pros will use a conditioner on the horse, rinse the horse off,  and and will spray the horse with Show Sheen while the horse is still damp.   Will then take soft toweling over the horse to really dispurse the Show Sheen.

They will enhance the horse's facial features by using Silverado Face Glo, baby oil, (NEVER had a problem with baby oil, we were exceptionally carefull with it and we were not showing outside),  World Champion "Shine On" for facial features.  They'll make sure that horse, prior to photo sessions, has a well clipped, shampooed and groomed face.   That includes the ears, muzzle, throatlatch, chin, nostrils, any long or extra hair is clipped short using a #40 blade (surgical), #50 or #30.  The people who groom these horses are masters with the clippers...you'll never see a "track" on a horse's face that they've worked on.  Once all of this is completed they'll apply the enhancers that I listed above...any excess is wiped off with a very soft, absorbent towel or tee shirt material.

(And for a finishing spray prior entering the show pen, they'll use Pepi Grand Champion spray.   This particular spray has been hugely popular amongst the halter guys).

At this top link you'll find both "Pepi" and "Grand Champion" spray.

NOW,......... for photographs, once the "Face Glo" or other facial feature enhancer has been applied to the face, the horse is ready for the photo shoot.  Do not forget that the photographers that are hired to "shoot" these horses are masters at photography.  They'll take advantage of every "light" offered.  They'd rather not photograph a horse in blazing sunlight as the horse's facial features and color will "wash" out.  They prefer a semi cloudy or cloudy day and will use a flash if more light is needed.

Also, if they're "shooting" halter horses, the halters that those horses are wearing are spotlessly clean, silver shined to the max and the halter fits the horse perfectly.

And, lastly, don't forget the "touch ups" that are done by computer once the photos have been loaded onto a computers photo program....All that you might see in a photo may not be quite the "real deal" due to the photo programming in the photographer's computer....enhancement is the name of the game!!!

All of the above elevates the WOW factor in a photo in or in the show pen.

Sorry about the length of my answer but there is more to this than a casual three liner answer.

  10. the shots you are looking at the horses have been professionally groomed, they have been bathed, show clipped, then Showsheen, World Champion Pepi coat conditioner, then for the faces, its Vaseline on the dark skin of the muzzle, around the eyes, then a product called Ultra that gives the eyes and muzzle a sheen or glow to enhance good conformation, to make the eyes pop, most of this is done for showing in Halter classes to exaggerate good qualities in your horses conformation.

you can see the make-up and the way they are presented in halter class

  11. i normaly use baby oil. http://tonyonehorse.weebly.com

  12. they might also put oil on their feed which makes for a really nice coat

  13. I use show sheen and Eqyss Avacado Mist. It makes them shiny and smell good :)

  14. lots of show sheen and baby oil. they spray show sheen when the horse is still damp from its bath so it stays longer and is shinier and dust free.
