  2. quiet, child rocking in the corner is the first image but after working with an autistic child I know it can be much different! Autism covers a vast amount of behaviors!

  5. I am autistic, and I cannot imagine anybody without the condition even being able to come up with an answer.

    People confuse it with a mental disability; all it does is make it harder to communicate and "blend in" when it comes to social situations. It has no effect on intelligence; in fact, many believe it massively improves abilities.

    I beat the average 12'th grader in mathematics in the SAT's in seventh grade. My IQ is over 170.

    When I hear the word, I think of the hardships I went through to get to where I am now. And all of the prejudices.

  9. My little brother who is 11 and has autism. I think of how wonderful a person he is and how much I see things differently because of him.

    however i do know a child with autism who is the most cutest little thing in the whole wide world, shes absoltley gorgeous :) but as soon as i hear autism i think negativey and get images of children with the face of the condition and who are not able to look after themselves....

I get a mental image of this autistic kid I saw on 20/20 who could draw these incredibly intricate replica's of actual buildings  freehand.  His stuff was all completely accurate and all from memory.  It was really amazing.  Just for example, he drew some famous bridge in Europe, and after it was analyzed, some expert said everything was exactly the same as the actual bridge...All from memory!
