  1. Londoners will get a demand for their next instalment to pay  for the 2012 Olympics.

  2. It will be raining ... somewhere.

(The Mayan calendar doesn't end on the 31 St.)

  3. I think it will become 1st Jan 2013, nothing will happen just like nothing happened at the millenium its all alot of c**p!

  4. Actually it will end dec. 21, 2012 and i myself dont think anything will happen, thought many people have predicted the end. If your religious you should know god said we will not know when our end will come.

  5. The same thing that happened a few years ago when Nostradamus predicted that very bad things would happen to the world - absolutely nothing! We even had Nostradamus night on TV! What a con and a total waste of 24 hours for those that got took in by it.

One thing I do predict. You will probably have a Mayan 2012 night on TV...... Peace and respect to you.

  6. According to the 2012ers it will be the end of the world because

    1. Nostradamus said so

    2. The Mayan calender ends

    3. an Ouija Board said so

    4. there will be a pole shift

    5. there will be a planetary alignment

    6. there will be a galactic alignment

    7. an asteroid will hit earth

    8. Planet X/ Nibiru will appear

    9. some crystal skull nonsense

    10. we are heading into a photon belt (whatever that’s supposed to be

    11. Indian Astronomer said so

    12. The Sun will blow up

    13. some Volcano or Earthquake

    14. a  Black Hole will come along

    15. the experiments in CERN’s LHC

and probably some other equally silly reasons.

I would take those doomsayers more serious if they

    - had a better track record (just how many times has the world ended already?)

    - could make up ONE story about it

And is it really that hard to search for this topic?

  7. Nothing will happen, same old New Year's celebration .. first in Melbourne, London, New York .... then 1 Jan 2013 .. enjoy day off .. 2 Jan 2013 . get to work as you have to otherwise you can't afford pertrol .. by then it won't be £1.20 watever .. it'll be £10 ....

  8. Some people seem to think that because a long period of a calendar comes to an end it 'must' mean some physical disaster or other. It doesn't mean anything of the sort. It's just a calendar.

  9. I think everyone on the planet will suddenly be overcome by a mysterious desire to make tomato soup only to tip it into the sea, and then gradually all the men on the planet and all the women on the planet will pair off randomly and anyone left over will drown themselves in the sea, which by that time will be almost 100% tomato soup. Then the whole universe will collapse in on itself and instantly expand again, creating an entirely new existence probably without fridge magnets, DIY programmes and flip flops. Those pesky Mayans.

  10. First, the Mayan calendar does not "end" on Dec. 31, 2012.  The Mayan Calendar Long Count current cycle ends on Dec. 21, 2012.  All it means is that a new Long Count will start next day - just like the 20th century ended on Dec. 31, 1999, and 21st century started on Jan. 1st, 2000.  The only difference is that in our calendar centuries have 100 years, and Mayan Long Count cycle has 5122 years.  There are many calendars in use today, for example Muslims use a lunar calendar, the Chinese have another one, and we use the Gregorian one.  Mayan calendar is just another one, fairly complex, but very accurate, and few people know how to count days using it (although some Mayas in Guatemala still use a simplified version of it today).

There is no planet x.  Nothing of astronomical significance will happen on that day.

  11. no we will carry on living in this tax, terror-stricken world

  12. it ends december 12th 2012... and i have no idea.. i'm anxious to find out though.. this is a really good question

  13. anyone who still plans their days according to that will be late for many important meetings and will be lost without it- and i suppose will have to get with the times and purchase one from target or walmart for 5 dollars

  14. On December 31, 2012, an important cycle will come to an end. To wit: people will stop asking this f*cking insipid question and pick some other doomsday date to ask idiotic questions about.

  15. well if president bush hasn't got us all in to WW3 by then and we are not  all starving because of a global financial depression then i guess i will wish you all a happy new year.

  16. Well, i watched Richard and Judy today and they had information about what is happening with the decline of bees.

Apparently bees are dying out, and there could be many contributing factors to this, such as viruses and such. The biggest factor seems to be climate change (speculation).

If the bees continue to decline, in 4 years time (2012) then all bees will be extinct. This would cause a whole lot of problems with ecosystems and alot of problems to us. Bees are responsible for pollenation of a huge percentage of our foodstuffs, fruit and vegetables.

Food would decline and consequently there would be more famine, and more people dying. This would symbolise the end of humanity as we know it.

The richest and strongest might be able to survive, as usual with natural disaster, the poorest will be the hardest hit. Maybe they would be taken to a higher level of existence.

Who knows? My personal opinion is that something drastic will change on that date, but i am not sure what the change might be.

  17. A new calendar will need to be started - say with Ist January.

  18. We'll celebrate the new year just as we always have.

  19. The Mayans had a writing system composed of ropes & strings and wiped out their own civilization...do you really think they can predict the end of the world?

  20. If I'm still around, I shall probably get pissed like I always do on New Years Eve.

After that, life will go on as before.

Don't listen to this Armageddon junk, it's drivel.

  21. No, same s**t and same bills in 2013

  22. The Earth will tilt off its rotation and we will be sent into a spinning vortex of death.

    DUH!

  23. 21st, you mean.

  24. It's a good thing you asked that.  Only 1,357 people have asked that same question so far.  Let's go for 2000!

  25. It will start over, again.  It's a cyclical calendar.

    .

  26. Yawn.

More than likely, Yahoo Answers will be innundated with folks asking why the world DIDN'T end...

The world was supposed to end Dec 31, 1999 (well, at least for anything with a computer chip), before that in 1974, before that too many times to bother.

People have been predicting the end of the world probably since we could talk. I suppose sooner or later one of them will prove correct.

We will drown from rising waters from global warming - if we don't freeze from the coming ice age.

We will get hit by an asteroid/meteor - unless the reversing magnetic field from the north and south poles swapping repels it.

    Etc. etc. ad nauseum...

  27. No. I'm not gullible.

  28. I don't expect anything to happen other than the winter solstice.  There is no actual scientific theory or evidence that anything unusual is going to happen in 2012. It is a collection of myths and disproven theories being promulgated by doomsday predictors, who predict a new one every few years. The longer explanation is below:

It is based on the end the current cycle of the Mayan long count calendar. No doomsday was predicted and the Mayan civilization died out.

Niburu (Planet X) doesn't exist. Zecharia Sitchin is an author of books promoting the ancient astronaut theory for human origins. He attributes the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture to the Annunaki (or Nephilim) from a hypothetical planet named Nibiru in the solar system. The Doomsayers predicted that it was to hit Earth in 2003. When it didn't show up, they just moved it out to 2012 to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar.

Galactic Alignment - takes 36 years to precess through galactic equator, we will be 6 degrees off in 2012.

Asteroid Apophis - the 2001 alert was for 2029, and was canceled after additional observations showed it would not hit us.

Polar Shift - the magnetic poles are moving all the time. Polar reversal happens over thousands of years.

Passage through a "photon belt" has been added. This is also untrue and wouldn't hurt us if it were. Photons are merely units of light.

Solar flares happen all the time and we have more of them at some times than others. They haven't caused any serious problems in the past. The direct effects of solar flares are mainly related to communications and radio transmissions. We had a major series of solar flares in 2005. Did you notice anything? I didn't.

I missed the fact that you said December 31.  It is actually December 21, the winter solstice, when this cycle of the Mayan calendar ends.

  29. duh the Mayan calendar will end its cycle on the 21st of Dec not the 31st. Then It will start a new cycle!!! like every thing else....,its always a cycle...

  30. We'll all celebrate New Year's Eve, and then the planet will be swallowed by a giant serpent.

But seriously.  Nothing.  The next day will be January 1, 2013. (Probably because the Mayan calendar actually ends on the solstice, Dec. 22, 2012).

  31. Well actualy it ends on the 21 but still nothing will happen.
