My sister just caught a tiny lizard and we need to know what it can eat and how to best care for it??? We already have a habitat set up for it, but don't know what kind of lizard it is. It has a black & white striped tail, a body that resembles a boa constrictor's coloring (dark green & black), a dark brown stripe on both sides of the head by the eyes and a tiny white speck above each eye. It's almost 1" long.

What do we feed it and what kind of lizard is it???

  1. u really should put it back wild caught reps hardly ever do well in captivity. the stress and shock of coming into captivity kills many others die due to a lowered immune system (caused by stress). those that survive often have stress related behavior disorders get ill more often are harder to tame and have a shortened lifespan. they also never settle down and have a poor quality of life.

also there is the environmental implications to think about.

  2. Let the lizard go.  From your description there is no way to know what type of lizard it is (a photo would be the only way to say for sure), and therefore you won't be able to take care of it properly. Not to mention that it is a wild animal, and should remain in the wild.

  3. wild-caught lizards do not make good pets.  you cannot care for it properly if you don't know what it is.  just let it go.

  4. feed it invertebrates thats bodies are no bigger than the length of its head. it would probably help in determining the species of lizard it is if you mention what state you found him/her in :)

  5. Try going to Google images and looking at pictures of different lizards that are found in your state. Type In: Lizards+whatever state you live in. Or find a wildlife book from your area and see if they're aren't any that look like yours. When you find a picture of your lizard go to Google and type in: keeping (whatever lizard you have) as pets. It should tell you what they eat. I would try keeping flys with their wings pulled off and different types of small bugs from where you found it as well as grass in the lizards pen. I really hope this helps!
