  1. Every toddler should be introduced to the alphabet and their numbers, definitely. That's something that should be encouraged early in every child, that way it's easier to grasp when they do enter pre-school. They work on it plenty once they enter pre-school but it's always easier when they've already been introduced to it.

Also, introducing toddlers to sharing with others. That's something I always tried to work on most of all when I worked in a toddler class. They start getting more possessive after their first birthday, so definitely encourage them to share. These are all good ideas for toddlers, regardless if they attend pre-school or not.

    Best of luck.

  2. my 4 years old is in pre-k now, he knew all the alphabet numbers, shapes and colors and that's helping him a lot,now he knows to write his name and that is big help, belive me.So good luck.

  3. They need to know their numbers at least up to 20 and they need to know the alphabet, shape and colors. And they need to be potty trained..I know because I'm 10 and I remember what we did in pre-school. They need to know how to tie their shoes, too. Good luck! ♥

P.S. Teach them to share with others. On my first day of

pre-school a kid tried to steal a block from me and he got sent to the p.m. class.

  4. Talk in a quality manner and read daily and he/she will be ready for preschool!  I teach preschool (certified teacher) and am also a mother. It's amazing how much your child will learn if you talk often and read! You don't have to (and it's not recommended) use flash cards or educational videos.

Example of quality talk: Instead of saying, "Please hand me your shirt" or "What toy do you want to play with?" SAY, "Please hand me your purple shirt." and "Do you want to play with the the white cow or the train?" Whenever you can replace "it, that, this" with the actual descriptor, you are teaching your child the meaning of these words. They will pick up their colors, etc. in no time!!

Oh, and children learn best through play!!!  Make everything fun!

  5. My son already knew his colors, shapes, some letters and could count to ten.  He was never interested in writing or drawing, so I didn't focus on that stuff.  Being in pre-school for one month, he could write his name.

I wasn't planning on sending him to preschool, so that is why I tried to teach him as much as possible.  He was interested, so that made it easier.  I just tried to focus on things that he was interested in.  Going to the library and getting lots of children's books helped us out.

  6. I think it's only important that they know how to behave and follow directions.  3 and 4 year olds will vary greatly in how much or little they know, and they learn so much by just playing and participating in daily life.

Here is a site with some fun learning activities you can do with them at home:

    Best wishes!

  7. Colors, shapes, alphabet and numbers should be introduced to them before they go to preschool, but they will learn in more detail once they get there.

Honestly, they need to know how to go to the big potty, and how to properly wipe. While this is harder with boys, it's especially important for girls.

  8. Their alphabet, numbers, colors, and shapes.  Introduce them to their name and how to spell it.  If you do all of this, more than likely your child(ren) will be a little ahead of preschool classes, but not by much.

  9. Eat, drink and p**s not so clumsily :)
