What do trucks do when...?

You know when you're on the freeway and you're approaching a bridge and there is a sign with measurements for the bridge (i.e. "14.7 feet").

What happens if a vehicle happens to be a bit taller than that...? I'm sure a traffic accident of some sort will occur but how does the sign really help once you're on the freeway?

  1. Trucks are 13 feet 6 inches in height and anything else higher they are required to get a permit and they must notify the department of transportation so that they can be given a correct and safe route to take..

  2. As nearly all modern trucks have air-suspension,you let out the air shortly before the bridge,by this you can lower your rig by about 6-8 inches.

Then you carefully watch the gradient of the road.when they did measure, they mostly did in the middle;possibly on the side the road might be deeper; You hope and pray, that someone put that sign there, either to deter truckers,or because they just had this one at hand, and in reality it is higher. That happens quit often! And then you try slowly.

After you went through this once;you carefully avoid this next time for sure!!!!!

  3. trucks can only be 13 feet 6 inches high which most overhead objects wires bridges are taller if the load is taller than that you need a permit and that will tell you a route to go to avoid low objects  and if you get stuck under a low object you can get a fine

  4. Difficult questions to answer since it would lack empirical evidence in any case.,Most truck drivers know the height of th

eir loads and check the route to be driven before setting out

  5. i guess you will take the top off of the truck. you know something?. i dont know if its like where you live, but her in pa. when they resurface the road, they dont change the clearence signs above the overpasses.

  6. Most truck drivers know the height of their loads and check the route to be driven before setting out. Especially with an over-sized load.

  7. Well it's not pretty, but ussually when a truck is taller than what it is trying to go under. It ussually makes the trailer into a convertable, if you follow my meaning...this has happened several times in my area lately for some strange reason , so I'm fairly familiar with the end result

  8. The legal height of loads in the USA is 13ft 6 in most all truck trailers are at or below 13ft 6 in,If by chance the load is higher than that then a permit is issued and the state tells you which roads you are allowed to use, if you hit a bridge off route then you are in deep trouble. But one thing that all drivers must know is that if the hit a bridge with or without a permit it is the drivers fault and he will be charged with he accident
