In Venezuela casting is done nation wide to select the few women that will hopefully participate in the Miss Venezuela contest and the winner gets to go to the Miss Universe competition.

Osmel Sousa is the person in charge of the Miss Venezuela. He picks the girls and then trains them in the Miss Venezuela house. While the girls live in this house they have strict diets, spend many hours at the gym, if necessary they undergo plastic surgery and are trained how to use makeup, dress, how to speak in public and what to say, table manners, how to walk and dancing routines. A few days before the miss Venezuela pageant the girls that will participate are picked and given the state they would represent. 2 or 3 girls would have to hope to be chosen the following year.

the Miss Venezuela is as big in Venezuela as the Superbowl in the US, it is a big deal and details often fill the newspapers before the pageant. There has even been a reality show showing the behind the scenes of the show.
