i Have decided to get a moped when I'm 16 but am a bit unsure what you have to do on your CBT and can you fail it?

I have heard you have to take a theory test as well is this true?

What helmet would you recommend me please and how much should i spend on one and wear from?

I narrowed my search to these 50cc bikes what would you recommend for a female rider who has never rode a moped before?

  1. You can't really fail a CBT test - it's just basically to familiarise yourself with riding a moped or motorbike.

    You don't need to take a theory test.

    You should try helmets on to see what's comfortable, but I would recommend a full face one - if you have an accident, the open faced sort give no protection to your face.

    Finally, I would recommend a Japanese moped - they're far better built and more reliable than the Italian stuff. Even Peugeots are a better bet than the ones you've listed.

  2. Hi I have just had my son do all this....it is so exciting for you.  Firstly I made him get a Piaggio NRG Mc3 as the parts are good to get hold of and they are well known bikes.  The other one we looked at was a peugeot.  I suggest you get a bike which your local mechanic would say was a good bike (so give them a quick ring).  As for helmet never get a second hand one and as long as it has British safety mark on it then at least it is approved.  My sons cost £60.  CBT is simply a day course where you have a chat about an hour or so about safety etc... then you learn to ride your bike on a playground or something like that, then later in the day you go on the road!! costs around £100 GOOD LUCK..:)

  3. Hey. My first motorcyle was a 250cc that i just reciently sold to a female owner. it was a black ninja 250. She had never drivin a bike before and after she rode it for a couple months she lovedit and loved the size of the bike. I highly recommend getting a 250 because after riding your 50cc for a while you WILL relize its too small. I HIGHLY recommend the new 08 kawasaki ninja 250. If your content on a 50 then i suggest the aprilia rs50. Hope this helps and good luck ride safe.

  4. Follow this link - my answer on here will explain what you do/learn on a CBT http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind...

    Can you fail it? No - its not a test but an assessment of your riding ability and highway code knowledge. However, if you do not reach a particular standard the instructor may advise you to come back and re-complete that area.

    You don't have to do a theory test to take the CBT. You only take the theory if you want to take the practical test (which you can't do until your 17)

    I always recommend Shoei but they are expensive. Always get the best you can buy. Never buy a brand of helmet which you have never heard of, never buy second hand, never buy online. Always remember, you only get one head (Sounds horrible but its honesty)!

    a moped has an engine not over 50 cc with maximum design speed not exceeding 50 kilometers per hour (km/h) which is approximately 31 miles per hour - however some 50cc are de-restricted these days when they shouldn't be for a 16year old so always check it out before you buy.

    As for a bike, you get the one you prefer and feel most confident with. Always get insurance quotes for each bike and if you buy new ask about the warranty and what you get. If you haven't got a helmet by then, ask if they will do a package for you (it always pays to be cheeky). Make sure they don't rip you off! Look for second hand bikes and if its online (especially ebay) arrange to view the bike before you bid or buy it!

    EDIT: Andrew13 has also given some good points about helmets and gear and his link to begin motorcycling is also a good site to go to.

  5. I have never heard of a theory test before.  Assuming you are in the US, a moped is 50cc or under, no gears and depending on your state under a certain hp. In MI it has to be under 2 hp.  The pictures you have showed are not mopeds but small motorcycles and you would need a motorcycle license and insurance to get it legal.  Check out my link, this is a moped.  As for a helmet buy one that says DOT on the back.  That means it is department of transportation approved.

  6. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE A THEORY TEST for a c b t

    Essential clothing requirements for CBT

    * Helmet - BSI 6658 and ECE 22-05 standards

    * British Standards approved visor

    * Comfortable fit but snug

    * Tough jacket

    * Tough trousers

    * Good pair of sturdy over the ankle boots

    * Winter clothing for winter, summer clothing for summer

    * If it's wet bring some waterproofs

    * Remember tough, warm, waterproof, roomy and bright

    helmets vary in price but NEVER buy a second hand helmet  or  loan  hire one as you dont know its history etc as it had a bang/knock etc etc.

    what motor-scooter to buy ? all mopeds have the basic same controls buy one that suits you best they do vary in height seating position so my advice is to sit on several ones you may be short or a tall person

    buy one from a good dealer were you will have aftercare service

    a good dealer will show you arround your  new bike explain controls etc .

    also a good training centre will help you out with any questions or concerns about  your c b t they will even let you observe a training session.

    as for failing you can.. at the end of the day  c.b.t. is not a test its  basic training but the DL196 is not a certificate of attendance its more of achievement we have to be sure you  are safe to be on the road  without a instructor

    safe  for you ..  other road users .... and the public...

    check the  link  below and good luck in your purchase and your training.
