Its annoying!!! These bill collectors are trying to be smart with me asking for the previous owners new number and how did I know she changed her number like I know the previous person. I tell them to take our number out of the database bc she isn't associated with that number and they think we are lying and call back.

  1. Call the phone company you got your number from and tell them that you want an unused phone number. You can request this.  They usually will give you a phone number that was recently disconnected.  I had that problem too.

  2. I would pick up a decent answering machine and screen your phone calls.

  3. Thank you for making my case about getting rid of my land line. I now have 2 cell phones. One for me and One for my wife. Only those who need to have our numbers do. All others, sorry.

I saved $50 per months on top of tranquility, peacefulness and no marketing calls! I suggest you do the same.

  4. when they call ask them to remove the number from their system that the person they are trying to reach no longer has that number. If you request they remove your number they have to remove it. Also if they still call ask to talk to a supervisor and tell them you do not know this person they you have asked several times to have your number removed.

  5. ask to speak with a supervisor, and demand that they remove your number from there list, go to donotcall.gov and register your number for the do not call registry.

once you advise them that you are not the person that they are tring to reach, and demand your number be removed from there list, advise them that any further calls made from them to you will result in you charging harassment charges against them. Make sure to write down all information for your records, number from caller ID, name of person calling you, name of supervisor you spoke with etc. then contact your local phone company and advise them of the issue. you may be required to dial *57 after they call, to set a trace (there is a charge per use for this feature) or you may be told to call your local police department to deal with the harassment.

you can also get a caller id manager to block out these unwanted calls...

I used to have this problem with real estate people calling me looking to buy property that was forsale from the previous owner of my phone number, even 2 - 3 years after i had the line... I ended up putting on my outgoing message for my voice mail, "if you are calling for joe leave a message, if you are calling about real estate for sale, etc, you have the wrong number, please remove my number from your list"

  6. I feel for you...same thing happened to me....if you don't wanna change your number again, just get a callerID manager!!!
