  1. Your parents dont have to fill it out for you they just need to give you the info.  I agree, don't rely on them to do everything for you.  College is all about those who really want it.

  2. I actually had the same problem. Well, what I did was fill out the FASFA form myself, and then any information that I needed from my mom I just had her tell me over the phone and then I took out college loans up to the max that I could get them to pay for whatever that FASFA wouldn't cover. And I just found out about this site where you can register at and find a bunch of scholarships. www.fastweb.com

  3. #1:  You don't need your parents to fill out your FAFSA application, you can do that all on your own...after all mommy and daddy aren't going to college, you will be.

#2:  All you need is information from your parents 1040 tax return for 2007 since they are claiming you as a dependent.

#3:  Go to this website, fill out the application as best to your knowledge, make notes on what lines are needed on the tax forms (example:  On 1040 form, line 36), ask parents to give you that information.

#4:  Then go back to FAFSA website and select "continue application".

It is that simple.  Most colleges will have a list of scholarships available to students as well as the high school counselors.  But scholarships alone won't help so you get the ball rolling and don't wait for mommy and daddy to do it.

  4. ask them for their tax form and fill out the fafsa yourself.

it isnt too hard, and the application is pretty easy. it even tells you what line to look at on the tax form.

    sorry about your parents.

    good luck with school!

  5. This is a tough predicament to be in.  Why will your parents not complete the form?  If it is because they don't want the government to know this information they can rest assured that they already do know it (providing they filed tax returns with the IRS).  Or are they adamant about you not attending a particular school or picking a major?

Federal aid is the way to go but you will need their cooperation to help you get that done.  Financial aid offices cannot let you go through as an independent just based on a parents unwillingness to complete the paperwork.  That just won't fly.

You and your parents most likely need to work somethings out and come to a compromise on the situation so that you can go to school and not hang yourself with private debt.  That is your best course of action.
