  1. Utada Hikaru moved there because her parents are native Japanese, and because she had a better chance succeeding with her music in Japan than in the US. She moved there and went to a International School when she was in middle school. It's very different from your case. To move to Japan though, i want to do the same but i know it's gonna be very hard. First of all, you have to learn the language and have a 4 year degree to move there and you need a Visa. Basically, everything the above people said has to be done. It's possible but it's gonna be hard to get there.

  2. Japan is a small, overcrowded country with a highly educated population.  They neither want or need immigrants, so it is very difficult.  You may consider an extended visit there or applying for a student visa.  To immigrate there, you will need at least a 4 yr. degree, a much needed job skill, ability to support yourself, an employer to sponsor your work visa, , and a lot of patience.  You can explore visa and immigration requirements at the sites below...since they are not seeking immigrants...it is not easy to work your way through the info.    One of the best opportunities for you could be the working holiday program for Canadian citizens.

  3. It's much more difficult for non-Japanese people to move to Japan than Japanese like Utada to move to US. Don't think the 2 as the same.

If you want to move to Japan, you need student or working visa. I explained about getting student visa in the below answer.

If you want to take working visa, you need college degree and job offer from a Japanese company.

I explained about getting permanent residence in the below answer. It's even more difficult than living in Japan for a few years.

  4. Professional Japanese singer moving to NYC and amateur Canadian moving to Japan is absolutely different. You can try but I don't think it is good idea except short vacation trip.

  5. I want to move there too and I'm not Japanese.

And basically you have to have a degree and a skill that a Japanese citizen already doesn't have such as being an English teacher.

And they don't allow dual citizenry but you can get around that some way.

    And I like Utada too.

And she got to move there because her parents are native Japanese.

And I am also fascinated with Japan.
