I think everyone in the country should have to take the Citizenship Test one morning at random.

If you are illegal and you pass, you get to stay; if you were born here and you fail, you should get sent to the country where someone who passed came from!

It doesn't particularly improve the economy of the target country.

It does improve the lives of the immigrants (or else they would have stayed in their original countries).

Result - the immigrants should feel a sense of gratitude to their new homes.

Your question is so broad I'm tempted to answer in a simplistic way.

What I hope the United States would do is to stop accepting all applications for citizenship until such time that it  catches up with the backlog in application processing.  Then, return to the old law of immigration limits by country or by continent.

We the people of the United States do ordain and establish this constitution.  And we fought for this country keeping it free and democratic.  Lots of folks left the battle.. an idiot pardoned them.

Immigration is a method being used by lobby groups to

1.  Rent ever single home in a city.. mainly including class A firetraps.

2.  Keep a lid on wages.

3.  Reduce wages.

4.  Enhance the claim to globalism.

5.  Hide something close to total incompetence in Government at the Federal Level in the administration of the United States.

6.  Create a issue that keeps the American People looking at illegal aliens rather than the budget.

7.  Much, much more.

Business and lobby groups are running this country with significant input from individual congressional opinions.  But what the people want is simply not a player in the conduct of this country.  And when the Government plays the propaganda garbage and tells us we need to go to war in Iraq, we have a classical circumstance of incompetence in action.

Immigration does not help the people of the United States.  It harms them.  We have so many unsettled questions as a nation that the solution may never come.  I think in a small way, a revolution will arrive before we settle the question of where lobby groups should be in our lives... and they usually should NOT be at all.

Mexico, the United States Business Association, Open Borders advocuts, Big Business and Big Foundations galore support illegal aliens and high immigration.  This is the little list...

Immigration has its place... but right now, and until the People of this country regain control of the Federal Government... immigration sucks.
