My cat is about 15 yrs old! lately his urin has smelled awful and he is eating really good and drinks alot of water wich he never did before. We also moved to a new house in january of this year since then he started crying at night and has urined in the basement and in my room. He seems fine but i am just not sure if there is something wrong with his urin smelling so bad and the drinking alot fo water i know male cats can have all these problems so i was just wondering if i should take him to the vet or if i am just over reacting?

  1. I would definitely take him to the vet.  You're supposed to take your pet's in once a year to get a checkup and any vaccinations they may need.  When my old cat started urinating everywhere, it was because he had a parasite that was pushing up against his bladder.  So it would be best to take your cat in just to be safe!

  2. Vet, please.  He could have developed diabetes.

  3. 15 is old for a cat. Better take him to the vet.

  4. let him loose on the freeway. it'll solve the problem! hahaha

  5. Your cat may be diabetic.  Cats and other animals can be diabetic just like people.  Take him to the vet and find out what his problem is.  At that age, he deserves good care from you and the vet.  Bless his heart.  Give him a hug for me please.

  6. he could have kidney failiur x

  7. I am very sorry to say that it is most likely to be his kidneys slowly failing through age.

You should consult a vet but I doubt they will say otherwise.

I have an old dog experiencing the same and we have made the agonising decision to leave her as she is and allow her to enjoy her last few months. She certainly is in no pain or distress and whilst that is the case we will let her enjoy the time she has left. The hardest part is going to be if she doesnt go in her sleep and we have to take her to the vets as she begins to show discomfort.

  8. never hurts to give such a precious oldie a little check up.and maybe he is still disoriented in the new place and has a little Alzheimer's going on

  9. The fact that he is eating more could indicate Hyperthyroidism which is quite common in older cats, loss of weight and unusual hyper behaviour eg being more perky like a kitten etc, can be another sign of this. Our old cat started eating more, was extra excitable but losing weight despite eating more, we thought this was due to her recently having some bad teeth removed and thought this was why she had a new lease of life in her not knowing this was a sign of this condition which soon proved fatal for her, so its good you are going to the vet and be aware if your cat should ever display this behaviour as a sudden new lease of life in an older cat can in fact be a bad sign.
