  1. PETA needs to be taken down.

  2. its a real octtopuss???thats just wrong.the poor thing

  3. Absurd. First they tell Al he can't swing the octopus, now they downright ban it. What'll they take from us Wings fans next?

  4. i think that banning the octupus throw is ridiculous, it's a traditoin, why break a great tradition?

  5. It will start with the octopus and then it will be something else What does it hurt??

I Say keep tradition!!! and let them worry about more important things like world peace or something like that................

    GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  6. It's madness to stop a tradition NOW that it's been going on since like 1952.If anything why did they NOT stop it when it first started? It's all because of Gary Bettman.

  7. I think it's major bull****.  Did you all hear about that guy that snuck one into game 4, threw it, got kicked out, bought another ticket n went back in.  I'm thinking of him as a write in for president LOL.

  8. It can still be thrown (before the game), it just can't be twirled on the ice anymore.

  9. It's a real octopus and it should be thrown.  It's just stupid to try to trash tradition (and I'm from Pgh.!)

  10. it is pretty stupid to ban it. it has been a tradition for a long time and its pretty funny/cool. why would the nhl want to ban a tradition its so stupid. By banning the throwing of the octopus they are making themselves out to look like the bad guy? its a stupid rule that is banning a tradition that has been around for a long time. its total bs

  11. They've been wanting to ban it for at least a decade now.  It'll never happen, and should never happen.  The octopi are almost never thrown during game action, and as long as the fans respect the game being played and the safety of the players (as they have so far), I don't know why anyone but an animal rights activist would really care.

  12. gayest tradition ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

y would such a good team wanna have something that g*y

  13. If the pens fans can't throw bottles and trash on the ice, then Octopus should be outlawed too!

  14. Banning it is stupid. I'm not a big Wings fan, but traditions like that add much to the game at a small cost.

  15. I understand why they would ban it but if they actually make a rule to specifically ban the throwing of octopi onto the ice then the rule and it's ramifications should apply to ANY venue and for the throwing of ANYTHING onto the ice.  To make my personal opinion clear I am against any rule, it's asinine and I love my Red Wings tradition.

  16. I think it's BS, what next, ban throwing hats on the ice for a hat trick?  The league officials suck!

  17. The only time it will be an issue is if it is done during the game.  No one wants to see a repeat of the Florida rat fiasco of '96.  The whole rat thing was original and I will never knock the idea... but they took it too far.  But the organization encouraged it so you really can't lay blame on the fans.  One or two rats at the beginning of the game would have been fine, but thousands after each goal, come on.  Talk about a momentum killer.

So until the Wings fans decided to throw thousands of toy octopi on the ice after every goal, which would never happen, you won't see a banning.  However I do believe the home team can be penalized if it is done during game play.  That was emphasized after the '96 playoffs.  Of course because of the rattings.

And if you want to have the octopi twirling tradition going... Al Sobotka should really just keep a big stuffed octopi around to use for twirling on the ice... Bettman can't stop him from doing that.  Well, I guess you never know with him.  I'd love to hear Bettman's excuse for that one.

  18. I think banning the terrible towel is absolutely ridiculous how am I supposed to wipe the sweat from my brow on those hot september afternoons.
