  1. There are some very simple reasons why NASCAR (and most every other racing series) has a single tire supplier.  For one, safety, although that might be an ironic statement after the brickyard race.  By having everyone run on the same tires, they are able to slow the cars down.  If you look at series that had competing tire companies, each year speeds grew at exponential rates.  When you have a single tire company, the job of the company is to make the tire good, but not TOO good.

Second, competition.  When you have multiple tire suppliers, often the tire company will favor a major team, for instance Bridgestone / Ferrari for dominated F1 for years.  Bridgestone only supplied 3 teams, Ferrari and 2 "also ran" teams.  Michelin supplied all the rest.  So Bridgestone worked very closely with Ferrari to engineer their tires for each track and to match the Ferrari’s car.  Where Michelin supplied tires for many other cars.  This gave Ferrari and advantage.    So don't look for Firestone tires at Indy or any other tracks soon.  NASCAR runs like a dictatorship and they like to make things "All fair" (like it or not)  So a tire war is the last thing they want.

  2. Stock cars are different than other racing series.  They would have to start their research and development plus there is an agreement in place between Nascar and Goodyear.  I don't know how long the current agreement has left.  Maybe after that.

  3. NASCAR has an exclusive arrangement with Goodyear. Firestone quit producing tires for NASCAR years ago.

  4. naaa.  Keep goodyear in.  They messed up but have a year to correct that mistake now.  If anybody made a mistake it was nascar in calling competition yellows through the entire race. Once the teams realized what they were dealing with and could only get about 12 laps on the tires they should have made them all pit on the green at their discretion.  Should have stopped the comptetition yellows at the half way point max.  That would have at least made the race a lot more interesting.

  5. Yeah, Goodyear has exclusive rights in NASCAR and I think that is the problem............when there is no competition, the quality of the product drops!

  6. Never Happen..sorry..but Nascar has contract with Goodyear probably through the end of time!...and Nascar not likely to let anyone else in since they got rid of Hoosier

  7. I think NASCAR should let a couple more tire companies come in and compete with Goodyear doesn't really matter to me who they are.

  8. Not gonna happen.  NASCAR has a contract with Goodyear to be the exclusive tire supplier.

Firestone cant even make a safe street tire.  Anyone remember the millions they spent on all those blown out tires killing and injuring people?

  9. I think they should let rubbermaid have a crack at it.

  10. Actually there is plenty of quality tire manufacturers out there.  Firestone literally came into the Indy one year and the next had 90% of the competition running them.

It goes against there nature to bring in competition.  Toyota had been trying for years to get into Nascar.  It would definitely give the sport a little more excitement.

The end result is Nascar does not want any thing foreign or different to succeed in the sport.  Too much of their fan base are die hard Union, american all the way, type people.

Only if they knew that half the parts on their chevy are made in foreign countries.

  11. why would they just because goodyear made one mistake they are still the best tires for anything

  12. The problem wasn't with the tires as much as it was the recently diamond ground surface, same thing happened a few years ago at Charlotte
