Electrical transformers are among the most efficient devices. And although they are incredibly simple to build, the actual physics of what is happening is somewhat complicated (far from being the most complex device though).

Internal combustion engines - in cold weather - are quite efficient (since the heat of the engine can warm the car) and they are fairly complex machines.

I'd say computers are one of the most complex machines (since they require millions of smaller devices to operate together). But I can't say how efficient they are, since there's no good measure of 'information efficiency'.

And lastly, almost any animal could be considered to be EXTREMELY complex. Though few are very efficient.

It is highly unlikely that the most complex machine on earth would be the most efficient. But, as others have said, if you count it as a machine, then its probably the human brain.

Man.

Oh no, silly me, man just evolved from pond scum by random chance. The mind-boggling complexity we see down a microscope just happened on its own. Noone designed this amazing 'thing' which is a zillion times more complex than any machine man has made.

So this complex body of mine can't be a machine since, of course, it has no designer. It all just fell into place with lucky mutations.

How could I have been so foolish as to think of my body as a carefully desinged machine.
