Question:

What do u think of Kangaroo meat ?

Some experts think we should all be eating the marsupial meat instead of beef if we want to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being produced.

That's because animals like cows and sheep give off loads of methane gas when they f**t and burp, which can be really damaging to the environment.

Kangaroos have different digestive systems so produce hardly any gas.

  1. Even people said it's tasty but i still don't want to try it

  2. I'd rather not. It isn't Kosher for one thing and they are cute. All that "environmental" stuff is BS anyway.Forget it and go have a steak.

  3. Tried it and liked it - if I rememebr rightly it tasted a bit similar to lamb!?!

  4. I'd eat it, I ate ostrich steaks once from Lidl or Aldi, they were absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't think ostriches produce much gas either.

  5. Roo is quite a nice meat...Though Beef in my eyes takes some beating!!

  6. You have to cook it rare, or it will be tough.. So if you dont like rare meat, dont eat kangaroo..

I'm Australia, and I've never eaten kangaroo in my whole life. It is being sold where I live, but  I dont think many people buy it.

  7. i went to oz in feb and we bought some from the super market and cooked it on the barbie - yummy!!

  8. I would NEVER eat a poor kangaroo..

  9. Dont eat it! x

  10. I've had it before, and its delicious! Why do people think eating kangaroo is 'mean'? They eat chickens and fish and lamb and cows everyday...it also is very unhealthy not to have a wide range of food

  11. I think the flavour is pretty strong, but it is low fat, and high in iron and vitamins and very good for u.

  12. I'm from Australia and yes people do eat kangaroo meat. It is not farmed extensively and in fact in recent years has become more a part of the trendy upmarket restaurant menu than a staple item on Australian family's plates. It is also sold for pet meat.

It is gamey. Like deer really. Strong flavour, dark red in colour and with only about 10% fat. It can be dry and stringy, especially if overcooked. Takes well to marinades and kangaroo tail  soup was once quite an Australian country staple.

Actually the best thing for the earth would be if we all gave up meat and fish altogether. But I guess most people in the West won't do that so yes it probably is PART of the solution.

It is not only the gasses from cloven hoofed animals that are a problem for the environment either. They tread down the grasses with their hooves and over time they kill it totally, thus eradicating countless acres of grassland, causing soil erosion and increased salinity as the water table rises.

EDIT: Hey John D that's very funny! When I was a teenager we used to say a pie was good if you couldn't taste the paint from the car that hit it!

  13. Wot a topic LOL!

  14. sorry, but saying i would never eat a poor kangaroo what about eating chickens, deer, pigs, cows in france, they eat HORSE i mean what sort of a sick b****** wants to eat a horse?

  15. Well if you think about it, roos are a pest to farmers, so if they are culled , the meat they produce could be used to feed countries which have problems with famine, thus helping to solve two problems at once.

I personnaly would not eat it, I have too many fond memories of " Skippy " !.

  16. Kangaroo meat is nice. Tastes a bit like chicken. I'd be all for eating these natural creatures as long as we don't hunt them to extinction

  18. i'm an Aussie chef and a farmer. i have shot them, i have cooked them & eaten them. they taste great when cooked right ( no further than medium). they are a pest to farmers trying to grow crops as they eat sweet new shoots and reduce food for cattle. they eat everything almost as bad as goats. but they cook up well in stews with damper, or as steaks. the only part that you eat is the leg, the disect it according to tenderness. and saying that the tail is great in soup like oxtail soup. hope this helps staycool

  19. Its very tasty depending on how it is cooked and what additives are used with it.
