My last question about how white women hate it when Venus and Serena wins, caused quite a stir, so i guess i will lighten it a little bit for now. This tennis section is so wound up. I won't give my answer to the question yet, but we all know that clay isn't their best surface. Thats all i will say.

  1. GO LAKERS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I was so shocked when I watched the Serena's match, she played so off and terribly and she's an excellent clay court player, and she was making error after error. But I mean it just wasn't her day and really Serena just beat herself in that match, she makes mistakes and she lets her emotions get the best of her and she dwells on her mistakes instead of forgetting them and concentrating on the next game. I felt bad for Serena because she's so hard on herself and I know she probably felt crappy but in her interview she took responsibility for it and gave her opponent credit and she's  going to concentrate on Wimbeldon, it's the best thing for her to do. You win some, you lost some, forget it and move on. I didn't get to see Venus' match but I heard it didn't go very well either. Grass is particularly Venus' specialty and I look for her to win Wimbeldon again. The girls aren't dwelling on it, but of course the media highlights every mistake they make, but the great thing about them is that they don't worry about the media and their idiotic ways. Those girls aren't even 30 yet they've got plenty of time and fight in them to win more slams, one botched French Open is no big deal.

  3. I hate to be the "sour grapes" guy, but I'm taking my ball and going home.  No Americans= No more watching the French Open for me.

  4. Can there never be any discussion of the Williams sisters without their race being mentioned?

I was not surprised to see Serena lose;I was expecting it because she hasn't been playing well (berlin) and she's not that great on clay. I'm not particularly heartbroken to see her go because she is definitely NOT one of my favourites in any way.

(so ,for sure, to follow the logic of the poster immediately above me* I'm really a racist who is just in denial)

Now,Venus is another matter. I always enjoy watching her play and I thought her smarter game might take her farther but, really, clay just isn't her surface. I hope she does super well at Wimbledon. I like her game;I like her looks;  I like her on/off court attitude.

(so? now what? does this make me half a racist? a liar? is Venus only my "token" black player? I'm sure all you pop sociobabble gurus have an answer for everything!) )

  5. i was desappointed to hear that...especaily SErena..i was looking forward to seeing her in the finals..she is amazing and she brings alot to the sport.....i think those who hate them are just jealose so see African American women achieve their goals and are in the top...the two sisters should be proud of them selvess

hope to see them in Australian open

  6. They are getting older, the others are getting better.

  7. Vive la France!

  8. Personally I'm glad they lost. I don't like their attitudes and I don't think they made the sport of tennis better. It has nothing to do with their race. Of course, superficial people will accuse anyone who doesn't like the Williams of racism.

  9. not shocked. frankly serena really hadn't played her best tennis since losing to safina at berlin and i knew after seeing the draw and the potential match-up she would have with srebotnik it could be a dangerous round for her. they had a very tight three-setter in charleston, only weeks prior, and that was american clay, this was red clay which i felt katarina had an advantage on. and katarina is a very consistent player.

as for venus,i thought maybe she would get passed panetta but somehow, she looked as if she did not care if she lost that match. not requesting a suspension....she allowed flavia to continue playing at a high level. plus, even if she had got passed, she still would have had that potential match-up with JJ who owns venus on clay,at this juncture.

  10. I think that was the most embarrassing thing that i hav ever seen . I had big hopes for both of them that at least they would make the quarterfinals but i guess that didnt happen.

  11. I wasn't too shocked really, although I would have expected both of them to make it to at least the 4th round.  Serena losing was definnitely more of a surprise, but she did play Srebotnik last month in Charleston on green clay, and was taken to a third set, so I knew that the match could be a tough one for her.  These days Venus is so inconsistent most of the time, except on grass, that her winning or losing against Pennetta was a toss up for me.

  12. Although both williams sisters are not as dominant as before I believe that they still have the ability to win grand slams.  Let's not forget what had happened last year.  With both williams sisters claimed Australian Open & Wimbledon respectively even they are not listed as the favourite to win the tournament.

  13. "Dr. D Personally I'm glad they lost. I don't like their attitudes and I don't think they made the sport of tennis better. It has nothing to do with their race. Of course, superficial people will accuse anyone who doesn't like the Williams of racism."

Oh yes, it’s absolutely racism. You can’t even see you’re a racist, most racists can’t nor will they admit being racists.

Just what attitude do they have? I keep reading posts say they don’t say how good their opponents played. If this was true, it does not mean they have a bad attitude. First of all, when they talk about their loses, they are focused on how they played. It has nothing to do with them not thinking their opponents didn’t play well. However, I guess just because they’re black, they’re supposed to recognize how well their opponents played (verbally and for you important people to hear them say it) in order to keep the non-blacks happy. We dare them not recognize others.

This is all about racism and people finding anything they can to put them down. Most of the time when they make comments about their matches, they’re asked about how they played, not about how their opponents play until recently and when Navratilova made comments about how they never give credit to their opponents. That’s funny because when Navratilova was playing back in her prime, I don’t remember her giving credit to her opponents either and I watched a lot of her games.

    Again, what about their attitudes?

They hardly ever challenge calls. They accept calls and move on, even when the calls are incorrect. They’ve been this way since day one.

They barely argue with the empire. When Venus finally opened her mouth about a call, I was shocked. Serena actually is quiet as well.

They have been subjected to harsh words/racism in Indy, yet they smile and show respect to others. But yet, let the important people tell it, they have bad attitudes.

They don’t curse, yell, etc like some players have.

Lastly, out of all the women on the tennis tour, the two black girls are the ones with bad attitudes but it has nothing to do with their race.

  14. They can't remain dominant in their sport forever.  Time is against them at this point.

  15. You're completely right.

The Williams's game has always been about power and speed, but as we all know, clay reduces the effect of both these attributes. It goes without saying that many top players with these two attributes as the basis of their game have always failed to progress well on clay, Lindsay Davenport and Pete Sampras being two examples.

I didn't expect Serena to go out as she plays better on clay then Venus, but it just wasn't her day, or tournament. I think we'll see them back on form at Wimbledon, and hopefully this time round Serena will remain injury free and do better than she did last time.
