“Child, are you alright?” came his deep, comforting voice. I nodded.

“Are you hungry, thirsty?” I shook my head.

“Very well, at least help yourself to a patch of grass, it’s deliciously appetizing.”

I bit my lip softly, answering politely, “No thank you.”

“I insist!” he argued.

“Really, I’m fine. You go on ahead and enjoy it. You’ll get more use out of it then I will.”

“Suit yourself, but you’re missing out,’ he grunted. And he dove hungrily into the field of grass, chewing and gnawing contently. He rolled side to side with his tail flickering and his arms stretched freely. I stood on watching, as he swallowed mouthfuls of grass. Strangely, my mouth was watering. “What are you thinking?” I told myself. “Grass!”

Five minutes later, I sighed heavily.

“Oh, very well,” I said lowering to the green blades of grass. “I guess it can’t hurt to try a small bite. Who knows?”

The dragon jerked his head sideways and cried, “Don’t stand around waiting, dig in! It’s simply marvellous.”

  1. You're going to give the best answer to someone who says "OMGGGG THAT'S AMAZING," but I'm going to be honest because I want to help you out.

Right off the bat, make "I nodded." and "I shook my head." separate paragraphs from the dialog preceding it.  It confuses the reader into thinking the viewpoint character was the one speaking.  I, myself, had to go back and retrace my steps to better understand who said what.

Number two, you use too many adverbs.  They seem spicy and wonderful, but actually are quite redundant and bother the reader.  A few here and there won't hurt, but ease back on them.

Three, you need to go back and proofread for spelling and grammar mistakes.  E.g. You misused "then" in place of where "than" should have been.

Fourth, by reading this, it tells me you have a love for fantasy.  There's nothing wrong with this, but I encourage you to explore different genres.  My opinion probably sounds biased (which it may be), but you see so much fantasy work out there revolved around mystical creatures like elves, dragons, and warlocks.  It seems easiest to create these sort of marvelous things from the depths of your imagination, but for any hope of getting published, try other genres and make your settings more original.
