Viola - the larger faced ones that look like pansies are oftem called English viola and they have mild scent. You only really smell them if you go up and sniff them.

For the rest of the others, I think they are lightly scented but only if you go up to them. If you want the ones for fragrance, get Viola odorata (sweet violet) or Viola alba (Parma violets). Know that none are as fragrant as sweet alyssum.

    Hope this helps.

  5. You can't really smell them, but you can eat them. They are delicious and make a beautiful edible ground cover in your yard. A healthy alternative to the boring grass lawn.

  6. I have never smelled anything from a violet.  They're beautiful little flowers with no scent.

  7. If violets do have a sent I have yet to smell it. It most be very delicate.

  8. Violets have the most beautiful perfume of all flowers. Some commercially grown ones don't, but what we have in the garden are just gorgeous. You need a big bunch though, as they have a very delicate scent.
