  1. Height

    Vertical Jump

The other stuff can be taught and coached.

  2. it depends.

some schools flatout want players that are great right now (usually to fill gaps left by graduation).

however, schools that may carry more players will be looking for players with the potential to be great.

It is actually good that you are playing all positions.

Then they can determine which one you would fit in with their program.

All schools look for players that are coachable, hardworking, and will get along with the other players in the program. Some smaller schools also value academics.

Just so you know, most average varsity athletes will be able to play in college at some level(even ifs it Juco or NAIA). It's just important to get in contact with schools you are interested in.

  3. It depends on what the recruiter needs that next year.  If they need a Libero or DS, then height and vertical jump will not be the most important thing.  They are going to look for passing ability, hustle, quickness and a positive attitude.

If the team needs front row help primarily, then height and vertical jump plus hustle and attitude will be the main factors.

If the team needs a setter, they will look for leadership, hustle, quickness, and a positive attitude.

Please notice that I mentioned hustle and positive attitude in all positions.  Those are the most important factors for any player in any position.

  4. good form and bad results rather than bad form and good results

  5. Well, as a sophomore in HS you still have some time to develop so don't get any thoughts of what I will refer to as "close minded specialization."  It is ok to get good at a position but if asked to play something else don't ever respond with "No, I'm a ___ (setter, middle, etc.)"  Being a complete player and having the tools to play at the next level are important because at the next level things move much quicker and any weakness will be apparent.  If you really want to get recruited and aren't getting the attention you want then I might suggest a recruitment tape after your junior year.  This tape should be one of your skills and not a highlight reel of your best plays.  After this it is out of your hands and you just have to see if coaches are interested.  Good Luck.

  6. They look for people who can do everything, and do it well.  They want someone who can help lead the team.

They also want someone who is willing to work hard to get what needs done done.

      Good luck

  7. potential maybe..

    versatility and will.

  8. teamwork, attitude, and i've always been told its not what you do when you have the ball but how intense and focused and driven you are when you don't have the ball.  thats a real player

  9. Mostly ur excellance at your position. I play setter. I say, if u havent already, stick to the position ur best at.
