  1. Petco and Petsmart offer water turtle food, and besides that I think just fish or something. Go to google and search water turtle care sheet. And be more specific on what type of water turtle your getting when looking for food or care sheets. They all have different needs.

  2. Turtles enjoy live foods such as crickets and mealworms.  some turtles like fish too (minnows).  turtles also need to be fed pellets along with live food.  the pellets should be high in calcium and vitamin a.

juvenille turtles should be fed daily and adults should be fed every other day.

on days that you are feeding pellet foods give the turtle as much as it will eat in 15 minutes.

while feeding live foods give it 4 to 6 crickets or mealworms.

also make sure that you are feeding your turtle in water at least double the height of its shell.

to reduce waste in the tank feed the turtle in a seperate container.

    i hope this helps

if you need any other help with your turtle i would be happy to share my advice so feel free to email me.

  3. I assume that you are getting a young one. If so, concentrate on high-protein, high-calcium, high-vitamin D food. Live earthworms are good sources of calcium. Fishes, other than goldfish, have a bit of everything. Soft-bodied insects are good. Strips of liver dusted with bonemeal are the almost-perfect food.

  4. Many KUDDOS for researching your turtle before you get it.  This shows responsibility, and bodes well for an informed owner, and a happy pet.  There is much to learn, so study up before you set up the habitat, and bring the turtle home.

Well, if we are talking common water turtles, like the RES, Painted, Map, or a Cooter, etc. - their needs are basically the same for diet, heat, UVB, calcium, and etc.

Diet will vary a bit, depending on the age of the turtle.  So, you'll want to google your turtle from a hatchling right up to becoming an adult, so you can provide for its changing needs as it ages.

Kuddos for asking the question before you get the turtle.

I'll post a few sites below to get you started.  If you'd like a basic gut loading recipe for insects, or a basic water turtle diet, you can shoot me an email to oxo_sensual_oxo@yahoo.com with FEEDING TURTLES on the subject line.

An informed owner is a happy one with a healthy and content pet.

Enjoy your new turtle, and I hope this is helpful.
