The Missouri, Platte, Arkansas and Rio Grande all flow east from the Rocky Mountains and empty into the Gulf of Mexico which is part of the Atlantic Ocean.  The Snake, Columbia and Colorado rivers flow west into the Pacific Ocean.  The Red River of the North flows into the Arctic Ocean.  The separation between the direction of flow of these rivers is called the Continental Divide of North America.
