  1. This is an educated guess, but I would say b. It's a sample of a larger group. Very much like pollsters can tell you that particular states vote either Democratic or Republican. As I say, it's an educated guess.

    From My Oxford Dictionary:  "Sample"  Small representative part or quantity.
