What do we do about the smelly people?

i'm in a public place and there is one around me right now. i cannot identify him.

Some people smell. There are other social injustices to fight, so find something to fix other than smelly people.

Maybe the person is homeless and cannot afford to take a shower or bath. You have to take it into consideration also.

i think it comes down to cultural beliefs.  some cultures dont shower and use deoderants and frangrances like we do.  i really think that will never change.  its their customs and unfortunately we are stuck with the smellys.  if it was a close friend then you could always buy the a gift basket of bath and hygiene products :)

What i usually do is to just ignore it and try not to breathe in more often, that is, if i'm just going to be around with that person in a short while. But if he/she is like will be sitting beside me on a public vehicle for hours, i just simply cover my nose trying to have to fowl reaction to register on my face pretending i'm just covering my face.

I'd like to share what my other officemates did to another officemate who has BO (body odor) and BB (bad breath). Because we're all working in an air-conditioned room her smell really disturbs others who are sitting near her. They say it's distracting. What they did one day was they left a note on her carrell saying something like she (them) is just one concerned friend and that they're worried that... etc. I forgot what they exactly wrote but they said it directly! When the subject read about the note, they said there was no reaction. I can say she has improved now though there's still a little bit of smell.

Now WHAT you DO with the one responsible you have sniffed out is another matter.

I was just reminded of something that happened to me recently. I was singled out in a group because I was not aware how unpleasant the the sweat I had worked up smelled to the others around me!

..they were very nice about it, and I put on some deodorant one of them gave me and that was that!

They made me promise that if I ever came across someone else who seemed like they may be doing what I did, that I should be just as nice and obliging and politely tell them what they don't know.

So that's why I am telling you what happened to me.

Then watch the face and demeanour of the offender carefully and if they take the advice amicably, stay and recommend a good strong deodorant you are familiar with. On the other hand, if the response is anger and aggression.........do the smart thing......RUN LIKE h**l!
